Miles' Party

We kicked off Friday by packing for the cabin and I got to go to lunch with my 3 favorite people at Tavern 4 & 5.
These two helped with all the shopping for Miles' big 5th birthday party.
The weekend started with a 1 year birthday party for everyone's favorite baby, Rylan.
We celebrated with pancakes and presents.

The weather was beautiful and we hung out on the beach, by the pool and on the boat.
This pool was a dream for the three year olds.
Tractor ride!
Miles wanted games and a craft at his party so we did a relay race, pin the paw on the puppy and of course had a pinata.

After a long, crazy day of sunshine and playing all of the kids settled in for painting birdhouses.

Miles wanted a transformer-themed party.  He got 3 transformers for gifts, a stomp rocket and a blow-up beach toy among other things.
Four of the six cousins.
Grandma and Grandpa
The Sievers
Us!
The Nickolays
Miles chose the party menu - hotdogs, macaroni and cheese, carrots and strawberries.
We all got into the transformer spirit.
Miles picked a chocolate caramel cake - yum.

Everyone singing Happy Birthday to our big boy.
Miles had a good time.

He's 5!

My first baby turned 5 on Friday.  Where has the time gone?  I can hardly believe it!  Happy birthday Miles! We love you to the moon and back.  You are our sunshine!

Miles at 5 loves:

  • pizza
  • outdoor projects
  • baking
  • reading books
  • his puppies
  • riding his scooter
  • riding his bike
  • walking Ruby
  • art projects
  • sweets and desserts
  • games
  • to goof around and tell jokes
  • the playground
  • being inquisitive and asking lots of questions about how things work

The morning of his birthday we ate donuts in his bed and sang happy birthday.

He's been asking for a "jeep" ever since he drove a power wheels at my friend, Beth's house, last Christmas. We made his 5 year old dream come true and got him a maroon Cadillac Escalade.  We parked it in the garage and covered it with a tarp for the big reveal.  I think at first he was in shock...
Then he and Hadley quickly jumped in and rode it around the garage since it was raining outside.  He kept saying "this is exactly what I wanted!"  He couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear.

That evening he got to pick where we went out for dinner and he chose pizza at Old Chicago (this place has a lot of happy memories for our family).

All weekend, in rain and sunshine, he and Hadley have been obsessed with driving the "jeep."  They've even cruised as far as Grandma and Grandpa Nickolay's new house and love off-roading through the yard.

Here are just a few more photos of last Monday - my day off with the kids.  We started the morning by making homemade whole wheat waffles.

Later in the day we read books...

...and made homemade Greek yogurt pops.

Happy 4th of July

Our 4th of July festivities started Thursday evening with the kiddie parade.  This was the first year that Miles and Hadley both road their bikes.  Miles sped ahead (it's hard riding your bike slowly in the crowd) during the square block route and Hadley slowly cycled while waving her flag and throwing candy.

This was also the first year that we went to the Chanhassen carnival and street dance.  We played kiddie games, had dinner, rode the merry-go-round and danced until the kids were too tired to hold their heads up. It was a very fun, family evening.

The next day we headed to the Chanhassen parade before heading up north for the weekend.

At the cabin the weather was perfect and we played on the beach, I took walks, we rode on the pontoon, the kids had squirt gun fights with us and we caught enough fish for a big dinner tonight.

Needless to say our weekend was so busy that this was what happened to Hadley during dinner tonight.
