At Home

For the most part we spent the weekend at home...Painting

Happy 8 year birthday Ruby!
Miles wanted to bake you a cake but we gave you lots of treats instead.

Now that I can pull myself up to stand I want to do it all the time.

Look mom, no hands!

Nothing can stop this wild child now that she's crawling.

Growing up

Hadley's first Valentine's Day.  My little sweethearts!

My babies are growing up.  This week Miles visited the dentist for the first time.  He was very interested in all of the equipment and what was happening to the other kids.  He was such a big boy in the dentist's chair and did pretty well.  At this first visit the dentist just looked at and counted his teeth - he's got all 20!  He left feeling very proud and with a new orange (his favorite color) toothbrush.

Playing in the dentist chair.  I'm so proud of him!

Miles was playing by himself and this is what I found when I checked on him.
Hadley visited the pediatrician this week for her 9 month appointment.  It was good timing because she had a fever Sunday night and Monday and was pulling on her right ear.  Our suspicions were correct - she has an ear infection and is on amoxicillin.  Besides that she is a healthy and sweet little doll.  Her large and fine motor skills are really growing.  She's now taking a few crawls on all fours and is pulling herself up on furniture - most of the time up to her knees but she's pulled up to stand too.  She's a girl on the go.  She also has made a transition to eating more finger foods including chicken, cheese, grapes and banana pieces.  She loves feeding herself and is a good eater.  She is still a cuddler - most of the time she prefers being held and snuggling to anything else.  Today we went to the mall and out to dinner and she received so many compliments on what a cute doll she is - we definitely agree!  Here are her stats:
  • Height:  28 inches (70%)
  • Weight:  18 lbs 7 oz (50%)
  • Head size:  17.5 inches (60%)

Super Baby!

Our Rose has turned into Super Baby over night. She can now sit up by herself from a laying down position, when she's on all fours she goes up onto her toes - like she's doing downward dog (yoga), and she plays peek-a-boo. To melt my heart even more she says "mama" when I'm holding her or she wants me to hold her. I think we can officially mark this down as her first word! Super Baby was feeling pretty confident this week with all of her new skills. On Thursday daycare reported that she was in baby jail because, as the oldest baby in her classroom, she was bopping the other babies on the heads and taking away their toys. I guess she's taking tips from her toddler brother.

We have to be careful about what we say around Miles these days - as we hear our words coming form him - like when he yells at the dog "knock it off!" We live near an assisted living apartment complex and one day as we were driving by it he said "that's where the old people live." (Mike had told him this once.) So I asked him -
Is mommy old?
No.
Is daddy old?
Yes.
Mike didn't believe he knew what he was talking about so Mike asked him -
Is Hadley old?
No.
Is daddy old?
Yes.
The kid's smart...

During breakfast he proclaimed "I want to wear glasses like mommy."
We took a road trip to Moorhead for the weekend to visit Matt, Janelle and Baby B. We don't see them enough and had so much fun hanging out, eating way too much (Matt's a good cook) and relaxing. The kids were so tired while we drove back today they almost slept the whole 3 1/2 hours home.

Here are the 3 cousins hanging out.
Hadley and Bradyn played so hard each day that they were exhausted by evening.
We had a little Valentine's party and celebrated with an ice cream cake. Miles was thrilled.
So thrilled in fact that while we sang Happy Birthday to him (per his request) he couldn't wait any longer and tasted the cake.
Cute picture but notice - Miles cannot take his eyes off of that delicious treat.
Bradyn is the most fun baby to hang around - he's so smiley - all we have to do is to look at him and he smiles.
What's cuter then one baby in a diaper? Two babies! Here are our little Gerber babies.
Yes, we know we're absolutely adorable and huggable.
Miles and Hads loved having a slumber party at auntie and uncles house.

One more because they are so darn sweet!

Beating the winter blahs

Today Miles told me that he likes to make people laugh. He and Hads sure make me laugh all (well, most) of the time. Hadley makes the funniest faces. One she pulls out often is to close her eyes and scrunch up her nose. She also shakes her head "no" a lot. We don't think she's being contrary - just conversational.

In the middle of a dreary winter we're readying ourselves for the beaches of Texas. Our little swimsuit model tries her 12 month suits on.Little bathing beauty.
This weekend Miles started to be extra conscientious when Hads was sleeping by telling us in a loud whisper "shhh, the baby's sleeping!" He was also utilizing every stalling tactic known to toddlers tonight when it was bedtime. The one that really gets us is "I have to go potty." Of course we're going to let him sit on his potty but when it's bedtime he wants to spend hours there. He told me "mommy, wait here with me." I sat down next to him and was trying my best to not engage him (since it was bedtime) but he was making funny faces and making me laugh and the next thing I knew he was running around the living room saying "mommy, let's play football." I had the giggles through all of this - Mike wasn't very happy with either of us. Miles finally did go to bed.

Today he got a haircut and didn't cry at all! He's such a big boy now - he even let them style his hair with gel.
While I cooked dinner tonight and made a pot of chili for tomorrow night Mike helped the kids with a Valentine art project. Mike literally turned his back from Miles for a second and he had paint all over his face. Again, I couldn't help but laugh.
Hads got into the paint too.
Not to be outdone by her brother in the hair department - during dinner she also tried to spike her hair with food gel. (Notice the little wings on the sides.)
To beat the winter blahs we headed to Mankato with the Sievers to visit with Sharon Huse. We met at the mall and did everything there but shop - ran around the play area, rode the little cars, played at the train table in Barnes and Noble, did crafts in the food court, rode the Merry-go-round and had lunch. We had a great time.

Saturday the Carlsons came over for dinner - it was fun visiting with them. Now, Mike and I are catching up on the Super Bowl. We were reminiscing how pre-kids we would host Super Bowl parties - now we wait to turn it on until after the kids go to bed and I'll be lucky if I make it through to the end. After a busy weekend going to bed early sounds pretty good.

Sharon & Hads

The three amigos driving around. Miles and Corey thought 3 was a crowd when they were all in this little car but driving down to Mankato Hadley was sitting in the middle of the boys - all in their car seats - and at one point each of the boys was holding her hand they they were fighting over her saying "my Hadley." "No, she's my Hadley."

Hadley's first time at a food court and sitting in a restaurant high chair.

Here comes trouble!
